HumRC® Series RF Transceiver Module
Spread Spectrum RF Remote Control Transceiver Module
Not recommended for new designs. Please contact Linx about the HumPRC™ Series, which replaces the HumRC® Series.
The HumRC® Series is built on the Hummingbird platform and is designed for reliable bi-directional remote control and sensor applications. It includes a Frequency Hopping Spread spectrum (FHSS) protocol and supports versions at 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz with a common footprint and pin out.
The remote control transceiver has 8 status lines that can be individually configured as inputs to register button presses or as outputs to drive application circuitry. A selectable acknowledgement indicates that the transmission was successfully received. Primary settings are hardware-selectable, which eliminates the need for an external microcontroller or other digital interface.
Two of the status lines can be configured as analog inputs that can convert an analog voltage to a digital number. The transmitting side can command a remote device to automatically include these values in an acknowledgement. If these lines are connected to sensors then the module can act as a remote sensor node without the need for an external microcontroller.
No programming is required for basic remote control operation, but it has a serial UART interface for more advanced operation. This interface allows configuration of everything that can be done in hardware plus advanced features such as automatic receiver power cycling, automatic triggered transmissions, individual configuration of all status lines and programming in specific paired unit addresses and control permissions. Everything is controlled by a few serial commands. This interface allows more functionality with fewer hardware connections.
The HumRC® 900 MHz version outputs up to 10 dBm, resulting in a line-of-sight range of up to 1 600 m (1 mi), depending on the antenna implementation. The 2.4 GHz version outputs up to 1 dBm, resulting in a line-of-sight range of 100 m (300 ft).
The HumRC® 2.4 GHz remote control transceiver is ONLY available in a non-certified version. The HumRC® 900 MHz remote control transceiver is available in a non-certified version and in pre-certified versions with an RF connector or an antenna. The non-certified module allows more freedom in antenna choice and placement. The certified versions restrict the types of antennas that can be used, but eliminate the need for costly transmitter certification.
Benefits
- Simple long range remote control implementation
- Optimized for battery powered devices
- Bi-directional operation and selectable acknowledgements provide a great deal of functionality
- Advanced features are available through a standard UART serial interface
